Mother charged in Stanwood toddler’s fentanyl overdose death
STANWOOD — Prosecutors last week charged a mother with manslaughter in her toddler’s accidental fentanyl overdose death in 2022 near Lake Goodwin. On Jan. 12, 2022, Morgan Bassett bought $100 worth of “oxys,” she reportedly later told police. She smoked eight of them that day, using a straw to consume the smoke while burning the pills on foil with a butane lighter. She reported smoking a few more the next day.

As a child of a Herald reporter, I was always surrounded by newspapers and books. I was taught the importance of being informed; of listening to and understanding all sides of an issue or story. Not only did this help in forming my own opinions and beliefs, but also taught the importance of remaining open to other ideas as we make out way through life.
Herald owners should reconsider staffing cuts
On the televised news recently, I watched as passionate people marched in an effort to save jobs and (realistically, perhaps) save a newspaper. Recent changes in The Daily Herald have been troubling for me. I am not a fan of online reading, nor do I like mail delivery. I have been a subscriber for 50 years and deem this latest blow to the local Herald community a potential death knell.

An electric vehicle fire at an Edmonds car dealership drew a large response from firefighters Thursday morning. According to South County Fire, the vehicle fire was reported around 10 a.m. in an unoccupied electric car at the dealership at SR 104 and Highway 99.
