For some students, school is the only reliable source of food, so Port Huron Area Schools is making sure students don't go hungry throughout the summer.

Port Huron Area Schools is distributing free meals through its Summer Food Service Program. Free breakfast and lunch are available to children 18 years old and younger, or people up to 26 years old who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by the state or local public educational agency.

"Like surrounding districts, we provide the summer meals to ensure all our students have access to healthy and nutritious food no matter if school is in session or not," said Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Catherine Woolman.

Port Huron Area Schools will be distributing food from seven of its school buildings as well as four mobile sites within local parks. School building sites serve breakfast and lunch while the mobile sites only serve lunch. All will be open Monday through Thursday until Aug. 1.
