PORT HURON — A former contestant and current major gameshow host will kick off this year’s Port Huron Town Hall events next month for the speaker series’ 70th season.
According to a news release, Ken Jennings, whose long winning streak on Jeopardy! and involvement with the show preceded his eventual inheritance of host after Alex Trebek’s death, will appear on Monday, Sept. 9, at McMorran Place Theater, 701 McMorran Blvd., in downtown Port Huron.
Also a New York Times best-selling author, Jennings was slated to share behind-the-scenes stories of the TV show, as well as his love of learning with the local audience. The host first rose to fame two decades ago when he spent six months as a contestant on Jeopardy! before reportedly earning the title “greatest of all time” for massive winnings and a lengthy game-winning streak.
Jennings is one of four speakers on tap for this fall’s town hall series.
He’ll be followed by Tom Daldin and Jim Edelman, hosts of the PBS TV show “Under the Radar,” on Oct. 14, James Delgado, an explorer, archaeologist, journalist, and historian, on Nov. 11, and plane crash survivor and motivational speaker Austin Hatch on Dec. 9.
All performances are at 10:30 a.m. Mondays at McMorran.
Celebrity appearances typically cover a variety of topics, according to Port Huron Town Hall, and come in conjunction with a luncheon series for lecture ticket-holders seeking an up-close visit with the speaker.
