    Above and beyond: Here are Port Jervis' scholar athletes for 2023-24

    The Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association recently honored its top senior student-athletes for each high school. Port Jervis High School selected Yacine Niasse and Jaren Rodriguez.

    Class Rank: 11

    Varsity Sports: Soccer; Basketball

    Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: Four-time recipient of the Sojourner Truth Award; Port Jervis Student of the Week; National Honor Society; Youth in Government; Varsity Club; Athletes Helping Athletes; French Honor Society; Mock Trial; Emergency Services Club; Port Jervis Youth Coalition; High Honor Roll; taking honors and college classes

    Athletic Honors: Starter on the varsity soccer team since freshman year; advanced to sections in both soccer and basketball this school year

    Community Service: National Honor Society, local park clean-ups, packaging Christmas gifts, and the Delaware River Run volunteer; French Honor Society planning in French language actives with elementary students; setting up and present at Port's Multicultural Night; packaging essential needs/toiletry kits, welcomed home veterans at several Honor Flights, volunteered to work concession at several school events
