Stranger Suggests: Hiatus Kaiyote and Digable Planets, Capitol Hill Block Party, Longlegs in 35mm, ML Buch, and as Much Soft Serve as You Can Eat
(MUSIC) Aussie jazz-funk ensemble Hiatus Kaiyote will take to Remlinger Farms in support of their fourth album, Love Heart Cheat Code, which embraces spontaneity with improvised tracks like "Sparkle Tape Break Up" and "And We Go Gentle." However, the show’s real draw is that Digable Planets, the greatest hip-hop group of all time (in my opinion) is opening. The trio of rappers, who have adopted the insect alter-egos Butterfly, Ladybug Mecca, and Doodlebug, will perform classic tracks from their influential jazz-rap albums Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) and Blowout Comb. If you're not familiar with the group, I suggest listening to their 1993 track "La Femme Fetal," which tackles the persistent issues of abortion rights and fascism. Predicting Washington’s Starting Offense: Skill Positions
The Husky football season begins at the end of August. Continuing our look at this year’s program, it’s time to project the week one starting offense for Washington. The offense returns zero majority starters from last year’s high-powered unit. It added several transfers at many positions, and the new staff will be running a pro-style system. Big Ten Media Days are later in July, and Fall camp will get underway shortly thereafter. We have predicted the starters in the secondary and the front seven. But now, and based on what we’ve seen thus far in the offseason, here’s what the starting skill position players on the Washington offense might look like come August 31st.

8,000 spectators gathered at Seattle’s Angle Lake this July 4th to watch what was supposed to be a captivating LED drone show celebrating the holiday. Washington State Supreme Court leaves high-capacity magazine ban in place
(The Center Square) – Washington's ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines will remain in effect after a Monday decision by the state Supreme Court. A majority of justices denied a request to modify an order from Supreme Court Commissioner Michael Johnson issued back in April that kept the ban in place, despite a lower court ruling that determined the law was unconstitutional. Monday’s decision will keep the ban in...
Proposed budget amendments sign of tough choices ahead for city council
City budgeting and finances continued to be a focus for the Edmonds City Council as it met in committees Tuesday. The council finance committee — with Will Chen as chair, Jenna Nand as member and Council President Vivian Olson occassionally weighing in — discussed revisions to the draft City of Edmonds financial policy framework that had also been on the committee agenda in May. Among the issues discussed: Whether the city should keep its fund balance reserve at current policy-required levels — 16% of annual operating expenditures along with a contingent reserve fund of 4% — for a total of 20%. And what about the current 12% reserve levels required for the city’s other major operating funds — the water utility and the sewer/wastewater treatment plant fund?
