A Florida teenager was reportedly paralyzed in an accidental shooting at a friend's house.

According to PEOPLE , the shooting of a 13-year-old boy, identified by family members as Nate Green , unfolded on Saturday (July 27) just before 2 a.m. in Port Orange, Florida.

Green was taken to a hospital where he was treated in critical condition. The shooter hasn't been publicly identified.

Green's mother, Jennifer Green , started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for hospital expenses. Jennifer noted that her son was shot while at a friend's house just before his first football game.

“He had his whole life ahead of him,” she wrote, noting that her son is "paralyzed for life." “He just joined the football team and was supposed to play in his first game tomorrow.”

The teen's grandparents, Daniel and Elizabeth Green , said doctors had to remove a bullet from their grandson's spinal cord.

"[Doctors say] he's paralyzed from the neck down and chances are he might barely move like one or two of his arms, but not his legs," the grandparents said.

Nate's mother also noted that the boy is currently in a coma.

“We need prayers and as much support as he can get,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page. “He's currently [in a] coma when he wakes up he is going to be absolutely devastated that he can no longer walk.”
