Milton closes deal on 102 Collins St. property
Milton Town Council formally signed off on plans to acquire property at 102 Collins St. that the town plans to use for flood mitigation off Front Street. The town was awarded $152,000 in Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation funds toward the $168,000 project, a 90/10 split, with the rest of the money coming from the town.
Rehoboth author pens children’s picture book
Rehoboth author and former teacher Aimee Isaac has penned a children’s picture book that encourages environmental stewardship at a young age. Published in 2023 through Philomel, a division of Penguin Young Readers, Isaac’s “The Place We Call Home” teaches children about the interconnectedness of the earth with the people who live on it, she said.
Edna W. Wyatt Scholarship presented to School of Nursing student
The Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare announced Amanda Benson, a first-year nursing student from Lewes, received the 2024 Edna W. Wyatt Scholarship. The Edna W. Wyatt Scholarship Endowment was created by Mr. and Mrs. G. Edward Wyatt Jr. in memory of Ed’s mother, a 1930 alumna of Beebe School of Nursing. It is awarded to a second-semester, first-year student and/or a senior student who has demonstrated continued academic excellence and has a need for tuition assistance. The scholarship is managed through Beebe Medical Foundation.
Cast for a Cure reels in $9,000 for cancer patients at Beebe
Once again this year, the Cast for a Cure Surf Fishing Tournament has generated funds that will ultimately benefit patients undergoing cancer treatment at Beebe Healthcare. Tournament organizer Clark Evans recently presented a check in the amount of $9,000 to Beebe Medical Foundation to support the hospital’s Cancer Patient Special Needs Fund. The fund supports local cancer patients with limited financial means, and aims to offset some of the costs associated with their living expenses.
Lewes uses long ball to down Milton in major all-stars tourney
The Lewes major all-stars used home runs by Lucca Fazio and Ayden Jester to score a 6-1 victory over Milton in District 3 first-round action July 11. Fazio delivered with a homer in the first inning to score Briggs Gannon to take a 2-0 lead. Jester then went yard to boost the score to 3-0.
Meteor passed over NYC, Statue of Liberty Tuesday: NASA
A number of tri-state area residents reported feeling a shaking or hearing a loud boom Tuesday morning leading to quite the mystery. NASA is estimating a meteor passed through the area between 10 a.m. and noon and would account for people saying they saw a fireball in the sky. NASA said simultaneous military activity in the area may account the shaking or boom residents felt.
