Boy Scouts in talks to sell 50-acre slice of Brooksville reservation
BROOKSVILLE — When businessman Larry DiePolder died in 1978, he left about 1,300 natural acres in Hernando County to the Boy Scouts with explicit instructions. He said the land must never be sold “in any way shape or form” or be used for any commercial purposes, according to his will. DiePolder stated the acreage should serve only for the Boy Scouts to “enjoy the great outdoors and the beauties and benefits of nature.”
City to unveil new eco-counter to encourage more bike activity on Tampa’s Green Spine
The City of Tampa has unveiled its first Eco-Counter display at the corner of North Boulevard and West Cass Street. This digital unit uses camera sensors to count pedestrians and bicyclists in real-time, showcasing their presence in the urban environment. TAMPA, Fla. — Two years and more than 72,000 pounds of trash later, Tampa city leaders are still celebrating the success of its "Litter Skimmer." Launched in 2022, the Litter Skimmer has been collecting trash that has made its way into Tampa's waterways, including the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay. According to the city, in those two years since its launch, the Litter Skimmer has collected more than 72,500 pounds of trash.
