100-year-old Sydney Edson and 102-year-old Ray Glansberg return from the trip of a lifetime.

The World War II veterans traveled back to Omaha Beach in Normandy, France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Eight decades after the historic mission, the two men joined 66 other World War II veterans, nearly all of them over 100 years old, to honor the memory of their fellow soldiers who stormed the beach on that historic day and never came home.

Edson, a Lake Worth Beach resident, was drafted into the Air Force in 1943 and worked as a radio operator and a gunner in a B-24 Liberator as part of Bomb Squadron 491.

The oldest veteran on the trip is 107 years old, and the youngest is 98.

Edson and Glansberg returned to a warm welcome on June 8, in West Palm Beach.

Southeast Florida Honor Flights made the flight to Normandy possible. To learn more about Southeast Florida Honor Flights, visit www.honorflightsefl.org .
