A 28-year-old Portage County inmate who was on a court-authorized furlough is on the run and being sought by police, according to a news release issued Monday. Police say Matthew J. Garsomke was released at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28 for a three-hour furlough for a specific purpose and location. He was due back at the Portage County Jail at 1:30 p.m. Friday and did not appear.

STEVENS POINT – Officials are looking for a Portage County Jail inmate after he did not return after a three-hour furlough Friday. Matthew J. Garsomke was released for a three-hour furlough at 10:30 a.m. Friday. He was due to report back to the jail at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, but Garsomke did not return, according to a news release from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

Pavelski’s leave was announced via news release over a month ago on May 21, and Wednesday's statement was the first update provided by the executive's office. Stevens Point — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders visited Stevens Point on a rainy Friday, drawing a crowd of about 500 people at Pfiffner Pioneer Park.
