    Baraboo's Lewison shoots 82 to qualify for state golf meet

    Caroline Lewison put a low score on the board Monday, then sat back and watched. The Baraboo senior watched as her 82 at Foxboro Golf Course was low enough to beat out the rest of the individual qualifiers at the WIAA Division 1 Oregon sectional. She watched as it was low enough to get her in the top-10 out of an 48-golfer field. And she watched as it was low enough to earn her a spot in next week’s two-day state tournament in Madison.     Ella Denure played the round of her life Monday afternoon. In the end however, the Portage senior’s career-low was just shy of a state berth. One stroke in fact as Denure, who shot a 13-over-par 83, finished tied for eighth and one swing shy of the final individual spot at the WIAA Division 1 Oregon sectional tournament at Foxboro Golf Course.     Culture change reaching new heights for Portage football in Haak's third season in charge

    Since its last playoff victory in 2004, the Portage football program hasn’t had what one would call a “winning culture.”. From 2005-2018, the Warriors produced just one winning regular season in 2007 — the last time they had qualified for the playoffs prior to last year’s abbreviated fall season — to go with 13 losing seasons, including five winless campaigns. After going a combined 15-109 in that 14-year span, winning started to a come a little more often in 2019 under coach Shane Haak. Read more
