COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Governor Tony Evers announced Monday another Wisconsin highway improvement, this time a resurfacing of US 51, between Tomlinson Road in Poynette and Ontario Road in Portage.

WisDOT said Evers signed a $5.8 million contract to begin improving pavement on US 51. Construction will also replace guardrail, retouch pavement markings, and renovate curb ramps in Poynette. New pavement overlay will also commence on the US 51 bridge over Duck Creek.

During construction, WisDOT said US 51 will remain open under flagging operations. During railroad crossing renovation and culvert replacement, it will be closed and detoured for short durations.

WisDOT said preliminary work will begin July 8, and construction is expected to be completed by mid-November, if weather permits.
