    Portales Police searching for suspect in deadly shooting

    PORTALES, N.M. — The Portales Police Department said it is searching for Anthony S. Ortega, 36, in connection with the shooting that left Benigno Castillo, 51, dead on Monday.

    An arrest warrant was issued for Ortega for an open count of murder.

    Police said officers were called to North Avenue B and West Kaywood Street around 3:24 a.m. on Monday.

    Castillo was found with injuries “from what appeared to be a firearm,” said Portales Police. Castillo was taken to Roosevelt General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
