Motorcyclist killed in crash on State Road 8
A motorcyclist is dead after apparently being hit by a dump truck on State Road 8. The Porter County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 3:50 p.m. Monday west of Kouts. The dump truck driver told police he went left of center to avoid hitting an S-U-V that had turned in front of him off of Baums Bridge Road but ended up hitting the motorcycle going in the opposite direction.

Valparaiso Police investigating disturbance
The Valparaiso Police Department and Porter County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance in the 1100 block of Morthland Dr. at approximately 1:50 p.m. Tuesday. “Reports indicated the disturbance involved multiple subjects within the residence, with one person possibly being armed with a firearm,” the Valparaiso Police Department said on its Facebook page. “Upon arrival, police were able to contact the individuals within the residence who willingly exited to speak with officers. There is no threat to public safety, and no one was injured during this incident. The investigation remains open and ongoing. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.”

The move surprised the local community as it comes just weeks after the museum opened America the Beautiful, its summer exhibition of Impressionist paintings drawn from the permanent collection. It also comes as the University moves ahead with its plan to sell the museum’s three most valuable paintings to fund renovations of freshman dormitories.

Two injured, one arrested after car crashes into South Haven home
Police arrested a Chesterton man Monday afternoon on charges related to drunken driving after they said he drove his car into a South Haven home, injuring two people there. Deputies with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department transported the man, 49, to Porter County Jail on misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated/endangering; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content between .08 and .15.
