58th Annual Porter Peach Festival celebrates town's agriculture legacy

PORTER, Okla. — You can find everything peach in Porter this weekend. There’s peach jam, peach salsa, peach barbeque and of course, the good old fashioned peach.

Main Street in Porter is lined with vendors and food trucks, all ready for the 58th Porter Peach Festival.

“We get to celebrate our towns legacy crop for three days with music, free peaches, a parade, you get to shop with over 90 vendors, we have a lot of different food trucks this year,” said Krystal Miller-Livesay, President of the Porter Lion’s Club.

The Porter Lion's Club puts on the Porter Peach Festival every year. Miller-Livesay says the event brings hundreds of people to their town.

“The Peach Festival is the Lion's Club's biggest fundraiser of the year, so we can do community projects like scholarships, live stock shows, community beautification projects and things like that, so it’s a big deal,” said Miller-Livesay.

They also hold a peach pageant every year. Jennifer Ledezma, one of the six peach queens, said the title means a lot to her.

“It's an honor seeing the community come together and know that I'm able to represent them,” said Ledezma.

Rian Seals, another winner of the peach pageant, says the Peach Festival means a lot to their town and she’s excited to be involved.

“I think it's important to keep those traditions alive and show the small town spirit that we have,” said Seals.

But it’s not all fun and peachy. A lot of work and manpower goes into an event like this. Livesay Orchards provides all the peaches for the festival.

“The festival is our busiest day of the year, so there will be a lot of people that come in just one weekend a year to help us out,” said Kyle Livesay.

Livesay said they had a good crop this year and there are plenty of peaches to go around.

The festival is going on through Saturday, so come on down to the peach capitol of Oklahoma and indulge in peachy treats.
