Renfrew parks to lose aging play structures due to safety concerns
The town of Renfrew has had to make a few difficult decisions about aging playgrounds. Due to safety concerns, the smaller play structure at Horton Heights Park on Erindale Avenue and the larger structure at Knights of Columbus Park on Sixth Street will be removed over the course of July 22nd and 23rd.
Butler Rotary Club PM makes donation at changing ceremony
Butler Rotary Club PM donated $20,000 to Butler County Community College’s adult literacy program Monday evening, July 1, during its leadership changing ceremony. A news release from the club said the money came from the annual Luncheon for Literacy, which took place Feb. 18 at the college. Funds support fees for adult students for GED training and testing along with English as a Second Language classes.

Allegheny County Health Department reports a rise in Whooping Cough in school-aged children
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department sent out an alert on its social media pages on Friday saying they have seen an increase in Pertussis, also known as Whooping Cough, in school-age children across the county. The county health department cautioned that Pertussis can be dangerous for babies, those with weakened immune systems, and children who have not received all recommended vaccinations. The symptoms could lead to serious complications including apnea, pneumonia, convulsions, or encephalopathy which is a disease in the brain. It could also lead to needed serious care in the hospital.
