Westbrook man injured after hitting car in Old Lyme: police
A 19-year-old Westbrook man has serious injuries after crashing into a car and an embankment in Old Lyme early Friday morning, according to state police. State police said a driver in a Chevrolet Impala was heading north on Route 1 around 12:47 a.m., lost control, drove into a front yard, hit an unoccupied Honda HR-V LX and an embankment, then rolled over.

Kewanee Kiwanis Presents $10,000 in Scholarships to Six Local Students
Last Wednesday, the Kewanee Kiwanis presented six high school students from Kewanee and Wethersfield with $10,000 in scholarships. The scholarships were issued to Key Club Seniors from Kewanee High School and Wethersfield High School. Congratulations to Dillon Horrie, Landon Sauer, Kennedy Anderson from Wethersfield, Avery Yepsen, Eleanor Burkhardt, and Jillian Bennison from Kewanee. In a Facebook post, Kewanee Kiwanis said, “These young men and women are impressive to say the least.” Kewanee Kiwanis also presented Brea Cinnamon, with Fueling a Future, a check to help families with transportation costs for children requiring medical care.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced its recipients of the 2023-24 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, with the Norwich University men's basketball team earning the Team Academic Excellence distinction while Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) and Donato Pakak (Sarasota, Fla.) were named to the Honors Court.
Multiple suspects arrests after home invasion in Groton
GROTON, CT (WFSB) – Groton police have arrested several individuals following a home invasion early Sunday morning at the Branford Manor apartment complex. The City of Groton Police Department received multiple calls around 3:23 a.m. reporting an individual being assaulted with a bat and the display of a firearm at an apartment within the complex.
Poundstone retires from Naugatuck PD
NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Police Lt. Derek Poundstone has retired from the force after 20 years of distinguished service. Poundstone held various positions in the department including School Resource Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Administrative Lieutenant. He ended his career as the midnight shift commander. He also represented police as the coordinator for the borough’s major events and festivals and was honored as the Exchange Club’s Officer of the Year in 2024, in addition to being named the world’s strongest officer.

Second-hand clothing retailer 2nd Street is set to expand to Connecticut, with at least two store openings planned in the state. The new stores will be located at 272 Elm St., in downtown New Haven, which housed an L.L. Bean store until its closing in February, and at 17 Main St. in downtown Westport, which previously held a Loft store.
