    Historic, folkloric and, on Wednesday, it’s free: Oregon Historical Society opens doors without fee on Valentine’s Day

    Happy Valentine’s Day: The Oregon Historical Society opens its doors for free on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

    To celebrate the 165th anniversary of Oregon statehood, the museum at 1200 S.W. Park Ave., Portland, will throw open its doors with no fee on Wednesday. The day’s festivities include a citizenship ceremony at 11 a.m. in the pavilion, plus “birthday” cupcakes and tours of the museum at 2 p.m.

    In what has become an Oregon Statehood Day tradition, the museum will host a citizenship ceremony in partnership with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, in which 30 local candidates for citizenship taking the Oath of Allegiance. The community is welcome to attend the ceremony, which will take place in the main lobby, the Patricia Reser and William Westphal Pavilion.

    People also can take in the current exhibitions, which include “ Models in Motion : The Ivan L. Collins Collection of Historic Vehicles in Miniature,” “Birds of the Pacific Coast : The Illustrations of R. Bruce Horsfall” and “ Portland Past and Present .”
