Portland General Electric is seeking a 7.4% rate increase for average customers, to kick in for 2025.

PGE filed the 2025 proposed rate review Friday, March 1, with the Oregon Public Utility Commission. The filing includes investments in local battery energy storage systems that, according to the company, enhance reliability and optimize power from renewable resources, as well as infrastructure modernization.

Filing the utility commission begins a public process to review the proposed request. The review process can take up to 10 months. More information on the 2025 rate review filing can be found here .

As reported by Oregon Public Broadcasting, a news partner of the Pamplin Media Group, PGE's request for 2025 follows a whopping 18% rate increase that took effect in January.

The proposed increase is less than that being sought by Oregon’s other large electric company, Pacific Power , which unveiled in February a request for a 16.9% rate hike in 2025.

PGE serves most of the Willamette Valley and the Portland metro area. Pacific Power’s coverage area includes North Portland, Madras and Prineville.
