A Bar-Forward Reimagination Of The Sudra Will Soon Debut

According to an article from Oregon Live , The Sudra will soon close and rebrand as a new concept at 28 NE 28th Avenue.

“I’m thinking of the name Asha for the new concept. The goal is to close The Sudra on June 1st, and then open the new concept a few weeks later. The goal would be to re-open sometime in mid-June. I’m trying to reimagine something close to The Sudra but more bar-forward,” owner Sanjay Chandrasekaran told What Now Portland .

“We will be taking an expanded drink menu and we will have different hours. We won’t be doing lunch anymore but instead will be opening at 4 and staying open a little later at night. I’m also doing upgrades for the space to make it feel more like a bar. Asha will have a reduced food menu, but I will be planning to keep some of the things that people like.”

“I felt like The Sudra had been around for a while (about 10 years) and it was time to reimagine the space and give it new life. I don’t think if we kept the concept the same it would work,” he added.

Oregon Live’s article states “Now Chandrasekaran is considering turning The Sudra space into a cocktail bar that could preserve some of his customer’s fusion favorites, including the peacock salad and kale pakoras.”

“The move would track with recent changes in The Sudra universe. The restaurant’s Mississippi Avenue and Beaverton locations each closed in the past two years, only to reopen as XO and June, respectively, two craft cocktail bars with vegan snacks.”
