Fifty Licks Hopes to Rebuild After Recent Fire

According to a recent article from the Portland Eater , Fifty Licks plans to move its East Burnside Street and Northeast 28th Avenue location after a recent fire.

“We are trying to figure out how we can keep our staff employed or find new jobs for them and support the other tenants in the building who are also victims of this fire. If folks want to support us we’d love for them to visit our remaining locations at 2021 SE Clinton and 1647 NW 21st Ave,” owner Chad Draizan told What Now Portland .

According to the article from the Portland Eater , “Due to the extent of the damage, Draizin plans to open a brick-and-mortar elsewhere instead of moving back into the East Burnside Street and Northeast 28th Avenue building — which he anticipates not being possible for at least a year, if at all. He is currently welcoming leads on available spaces in which to pop up or open a new location.”

“His main priority at this time is finding employment and hours for his displaced employees. As the busy summer season ramps up, some employees might be transferred to Fifty Licks’ two other locations, on Southeast Clinton Street and Northwest 21st Avenue. The shop has started a GoFundMe to support its staff with two weeks of lost tipped income.”

Fifty Lick’s website states, “Fifty Licks owner Chad Draizin is fascinated by the chemical cartwheels that happen when beer is brewed, bread is baked, and ice cream is churned (or spun, as they say in the biz).”

“His first love, brewing beer, is what brought him to Portland for an internship at Portland Brewing. He fell in love with the rain, but he couldn’t find a place to get a good scoop of ice cream. So he fixed up a cheerful blue truck, and started experimenting. His mission? Ice cream made from scratch, with local ingredients and tons of cage-free egg yolks for a luscious, rich texture.”
