November 8, 1944 - May 1, 2024 - Thomas (Tom) Solheim, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away from cancer May 1, 2024. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Albert and Kay Solheim. After his early years in Portland the family moved to West Linn where he attended Bolton Elementary and then Lake Oswego High School.

He married his wife Barbara in 1969 and together they raised three children, Julie, Jason and Jill, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Tom loved the outdoors and taking to the road. As a family they often camped and spent time at the Oregon coast and Black Butte Ranch.

For nearly 40 years, Tom worked for Reddaway. He began as a driver and retired as Director of Safety. Over the years, Tom opened terminals, hired and trained drivers all over the Reddaway network and received multiple Safety Awards throughout his career. Reddaway was his life. His profession allowed him to see the country. He loved meeting and working with all the staff and was known as a leader in the field. As one co-worker once said, Tom would never ask anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself.

After Barbara’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, she and Tom made the decision to retire in 2011 and enjoy their remaining time together. This included trips to Canada, England, national parks, Hawaii, and seven incredible seasons in Arizona with old friends and many new friends. After Barb passed in 2020, he loved taking leisurely drives to the Oregon coast, the Columbia Gorge or Central Oregon, or taking laps in the pool at Stafford Hills Athletic Club.

Tom was well-respected and well-loved and was known for his generous smile, his sincere ability to listen, and compassion and courage when dealing with struggles. It was evident how much he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a great man who was gone too soon.

Tom is survived by his Brother Al; his children Julie, Jill, and Jason; 3 grandchildren Chantal, Hunter and Tucker; and one great grandchild, Bodde.

A celebration of life for Tom and Barb Solheim will be on July 25, 2024 at 4pm at Nordic Northwest in Portland.
