When people think about planning their day at an amusement park, the emotions are usually all positive. Excitement for a day of fun and spending time with people you love, looking forward to the rides you want to try out... and, if you're like me, you're also thinking about the snacks you're going to eat — amusement parks always have the best food (probably because they deep fry everything). Most people don't think that something horrifying is going to happen to them, and while in almost all cases, your day at the park will be as fun as you expect, every so often, something does happen that makes headlines.

Unfortunately, another incident like this has come up just as people are getting their summer vacations started. A ride got stuck at a very popular theme park, and the situation was so bad that the whole park had to be shut down.

On Friday, June 14, Chris Ryan took to TikTok to share what he witnessed while he was at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon . One ride, called AtmosFEAR, got stuck while park guests were riding it, which left 28 people hanging upside down for 20 minutes — though that must have felt like hours to them!

In the video, we can see the people dangling upside down at the very top of the ride, which the OP said had been going on for two to three minutes when he started recording.

Less than a minute later, you can hear an announcement that the park is closing... and the people still hadn't been let down by the time the video was over.

I can only imagine how terrifying this must have been for the people who were stuck at the top, unable to move!

More About the Incident at Oaks Amusement Park

The theme park released a statement on its social media accounts about the incident, including more details about what happened when the ride shut down around 2:55 p.m. on Friday.

When theme park employees were unable to get the ride moving again, they called 911, and first responders were on the scene 25 minutes later and were quickly able to return riders to the ground and evaluate them to make sure everyone was okay. Fortunately, all of the riders but one were deemed healthy enough to be released, while one with pre-existing conditions was transported to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution."

"We wish to express our deepest appreciation to the first responders and our staff for taking prompt action, leading to a positive outcome today, and to the rest of the park guests who swiftly followed directions to vacate the park to make way for the emergency responders to attend to the situation," the statement said. "Most of all, we are thankful that the riders are safe and with their families."

It's good to know that everyone was safe, though of course, this had to be a pretty scary situation for those who were on the ride. Yikes!
