SHOPPERS at WinCo Foods may qualify for money from a $3.37 million settlement.

Customers in Oregon alleged the grocery chain charged fees that were not included in advertised prices.

The shoppers who brought the suit said that fees for non-grocery items appeared on their receipts despite not being advertised.

The fees were allegedly charged between June 1, 2019 and May 8, 2022 at stores in Portland.

Complaints led to a class-action lawsuit against the company.

“In an effort to profit and to obtain an unfair advantage over its competitors, defendant Winco Foods… misled thousands of Oregon customers into paying unlawful hidden surcharges on certain non-grocery items,” legal filings claimed.

WinCo has set aside millions to settle the claims.

The company admitted no wrongdoing in the case, but will pay customers to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Thousands of customers in Portland could qualify. Currently, there are three WinCo locations in the city.

Shoppers could get $200 from the case if they file a claim by July 9, 2024.

    CLAIM THE CASH

Anyone who was charged and paid a surcharge on non-grocery items at a Portland WinCo during the settlement period can qualify.

The settlement period is June 1, 2019 to May 8, 2022.

You do not need a receipt to file a claim.

However, if you paid at least one surcharge and file a claim, you can qualify for $200.

The settlement website says this payment could be adjusted depending on how many claims are filed.

    Claims can be filed online.

    MORE CLASS ACTIONS

False advertising allegations can lead to heavy payouts across many industries.

One Lasik surgery provider recently settled false advertising claims for $1.25 million.

Many class action settlements follow data breaches.

One debt collection agency is paying people through a $2.45 million settlement after it failed to protect Social Security numbers.

A deadline for a major price-fixing settlement has been extended.

In Washington, a chicken and tuna price fixing lawsuit is set to pay out over $40 million.
