“It's like trying to mop up a water spill and the guy upstairs won't turn off the faucet. And this is emblematic of what we see in government all the time.”

On the Wednesday edition of the Newell Normand Show, the WWL talk host and former sheriff spoke about the troubles the city of Portland, Ore., has faced in dispersing its population of homeless people off of busy city sidewalks.

Normand relayed that while the city authorities were busy ridding public spaces of tents, tarps, and other items used to create homeless encampments, those same supplies were still be actively handed out by the county to the homeless population.

“We wonder why we don't create a lot of forward momentum,” Normand said. “We wonder why we always feel like we're going one step forward, two steps back.”
