PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A traffic stop turned into a shooting and became a police chase before one man was arrested in Tillamook County early Wednesday evening.

Just before 6:30 p.m., officials say Tillamook County Sheriff’s deputies, police officers and Oregon State troopers tried to stop a pickup in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer on North Main in Tillamook.

A man in the pickup then fired a pistol at police several times. Deputies and officers fired back before the man fled in his car, prompting police to chase the car for five miles along Highway 101, officials say.

TCSO deputies deployed spike strips on the suspect’s car, damaging its tires. The car then pulled into a driveway before the suspect – identified as 37-year-old Joey De La Rosa Rodriguez – was taken into custody.

Authorities say Rodriguez was then taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Once he was released, he was booked in the Tillamook County Jail on attempting to elude law enforcement and felony warrants issued in both Clackamas and Yamhill Counties.

The Oregon State Police are currently investigating the shooting.
