PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A man was shot by law enforcement outside a Clackamas hospital Friday night after he allegedly rammed multiple patrol cars with a stolen vehicle. The suspect was taken to a hospital and is reportedly in stable condition, officials said.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said they were notified just before 6:30 p.m. by the Portland Police Bureau that a suspected stolen car was being tracked by the police’s air unit and that the driver entered Clackamas County. PPB reported to the sheriff’s office that the person was allegedly driving recklessly and trying to elude officers. The suspect vehicle then entered the Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center’s parking structure.

The suspect vehicle, a white Kia Sportage occupied by three, was located by deputies and the PPB air unit that responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle then “began ramming multiple responding patrol vehicles” and that the driver was eventually “shot by a deputy.”

No member of law enforcement was hurt nor were the passengers in the vehicle, officials said.

“Deputies began life-saving measures and the driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in stable condition,” the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

Law enforcement said the vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen.

KOIN 6 News crew members on the scene talked to nurses who said the hospital was on lockdown during the incident.

The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave, per standard policy.
