    ‘a seagull’

Portland Center Stage presents its new “PCS Presents” model and the show “a seagull,” the 10-year culmination of a series of translated Chekhov shows, created and performed by Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble. It’s an engaging version of Chekhov’s “The Seagull,” and it stages 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays through July 13 at The Armory. The story: A love letter and an elegy, the building of a play, the striking of a set, the putting on and taking off of roles and hats and moments. The play is asking us to reckon with our role as artists in the world. “There will be dead birds and beating hearts.”

    Art galleries

The Fourth of July holiday will be on Thursday, July 4, meaning it’ll overshadow art galleries openings for First Thursday.

There will be many new openings this week and next, however, such as: “Chim: Between Devastation and Resurrection and The Magic World of Leonora Carrington” (Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, ojmche.org ); Lonnie Holley’s “The Movement of Thought: Paintings & Works on Paper,” Matthew Picton’s “City of Apparitions” (Elizabeth Leach Gallery, elizabethleach.com ); Erika James’ “Something Permanent” (Waterstone Gallery, waterstonegallery.com ); Kristina E. Knipe’s “Talisman” and Cammie Toloui’s “The Lusty Lady” (Blue Sky Gallery, blueskygallery.org ).

LeakyCon will host in-depth discussions about both the book and film series, Special Guest Spotlight interviews, performances from wizard rock bands, live recordings of fan-favorite podcasts, and much more. Previous guests include stars like Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Miranda Otto, Tom Felton, Evanna Lynch, Dan Fogler, Alfred Enoch, Alison Sudol, and more. LeakyCon has also featured favorites like Darren Criss and Team Starkid, Potter Puppet Pals, Tessa Netting, James Moran, Kim Rhodes, fandom creators Chanel Williams, Trey Beachum and Em Wallbank.

LeakyCon is an unofficial fan convention. It is not endorsed, sanctioned or in any other way supported directly or indirectly by Warner Bros. Entertainment, the Harry Potter book publishers, or J.K. Rowling and her representatives.
