Lowell’s Print Inn, a cornerstone of the Brooklyn neighborhood for 54 years at 3303 S.E. Milwaukie Avenue, closed at the end of last October. Owner Chuck Kragero, son of the original owner – Lowell Kragero – has worked there since he was 19 years old. Lowell’s also owned the apartments on the second floor, among which were also the offices and computers of the printing business.

Over the past months, Kragero has been busy cleaning out the building and selling the equipment in it, while dumping trash into the two large dumpsters at the side of the building. The large mural on the north side of the building, created by R. Galeno in 1989 to celebrate Brooklyn Park nearby, will remain. Arrangements were finalized with the buyer of the property at the end of May.

Chuck says that, originally, the structure was home to a family meat market. He told THE BEE that he plans to spend some time at the beach during retirement. Some other businesses along that section of S.E .Milwaukie Avenue have also recently closed. However, the new apartment building currently being built at the site of the former U.S. Bank building is expected to be completed and open to renters soon, which may provide a boost for businesses nearby.

In June, the new owner posted a handwritten note in the front window of the building, announcing two new businesses that will be moving in: Top Shelf Records, and Honey Latte Presents.
