Music on Main, put on by Portland’5 and the ArtBar & Bistro, begins 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 with LaRhonda Steele and The Steele Family Band — including husband Mark and daughters Lo and Sarah. The concerts take place at Southwest Main Street, next to Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (between Broadway and Park). Sandbox Percussion
The Grammy-nominated ensemble Sandbox Percussion will perform live in four concerts at Chamber Music Northwest’s Summer Festival, including playing a world premiere of “Prophecies of Fire” by John Luther Adams at Reed College’s Kaul Auditorium, 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10. In a different program, Sandbox Percussion performs the world premiere of “To Sing or Dance” by Joan Tower, 4 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at Lincoln Performance Hall.

It’s the season for outdoor movies in parks and other venues. Overlook Park hosts the first Portland Parks & Recreation outdoor movie, “Newsies,” 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 12.

Rose Cup Races
Originally a Rose Festival event, the Rose Cup Races continue to thrill auto racing fans every year — 63 years and counting. The 2024 Rose Cup Races take to the Portland International Raceway 1.97-mile road course track Saturday and Sunday, July 13-14. There’ll be six different race groups racing at PIR, along with vendor and sponsor booths, car corral displays, food booths and more.
Cars and amateur drivers are members of the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America and the Cascade Sports Car Club. Cars include Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Shelby GT 350, Cobra, Porsche, BMW and Nissan, as well as entries of Late Model Stock Car, American GT Challenge, vintage, Spec Racer Ford, small/mid-bore production and Spec Miata.
Gates open at 7:30 a.m. daily and cars take to the PIR course at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
