PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Oregon Humane Society says it helped rescue 19 dogs from a remote area in the path of the Larch Creek Fire, assisted by The Dalles Police Department’s animal control officer and the Columbia Gorge Humane Society.

The OHS said in a Facebook post Monday that the fire “was heading their way,” and the dogs were quickly brought to OHS in Portland.

“Our staff is working with each dog to determine when they will be ready for adoption,” the organization said.

The Larch Creek Fire 10 miles southeast of Condon had burned some 65,000 acres by Tuesday.
