A third former Ida. B. Wells student has died as the result of a vehicle crash on June 25.

Shortly after the crash, Portland Public Schools notified school families that Dylan Brasky and Jayden Rolon-Ekis had died. The two 16-year-olds were sophomores who had recently transferred to Portland Community College.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the third student, Cole Johnson, 18, died of his injuries in a hospital on July 8.

Police said the incident began around 12:14 a.m. on June 25 at Southeast 159th Avenue and Southeast Division Street when Gresham police attempted to stop a vehicle. Instead, the vehicle sped off but soon crashed into a second vehicle and a utility pole, causing a power outage in the area.

Portland police responded to the scene to assist. Brasky and Rolon-Ekis were found dead. The third passenger was driven to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police later learned the vehicle that caused the crash was stolen. Investigators determined Rolon-Ekis was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. Brasky was a passenger in the vehicle.
