PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — The suspect who was detained for a fatal stabbing in the early hours of Monday was released and not charged with a crime, Portland police said Tuesday.

The stabbing near the intersection of SE 136th and Clinton left Kenny L. Housman critically wounded around 12:30 a.m. Monday. The 73-year-old later died at a nearby hospital, officials said.

A person suspected in the stabbing was detained at the scene. But investigators later said the suspect was cooperating with detectives and was released from custody.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact Portland police.

Housman’s death was one of five homicides over the weekend in Portland. Four other people died in three separate shootings. The crimes happened in different parts of the city and PPB Assistant Chief Chris Gjovik said none of the deaths are connected.
