PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — There is a KOIN 6 Weather Alert in place for Sunday.

This alert is to help keep everyone weather aware with the wildfire danger that is amplified by the chance of isolated or scattered thunderstorms. Plus, we are expecting to see even more widespread haze across our skies, despite the afternoon temps looking to drop a bit – getting back to the mid-80s around the metro area.

Where to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride in Portland this weekend

As the Portland Pride Parade gets underway Sunday there is a slight chance that downtown Portland could see an isolated shower with a chance of thunderstorms possible as well throughout the early afternoon hours.

Following Saturday’s high heat, we now have weather alerts transiting to focus on the greater wildfire potential.

For the coast, valley and portions of central Oregon, thunderstorms are possible on Sunday. As for the timeline of these storms, it looks like the morning and early afternoons are the targeted times. The threat of lightning and gusty winds, which make for critical fire danger, will fade by the end of the day Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for this weekend for much of the central Oregon coast and the southern portion of the Willamette Valley. The Red Flag Warning also stretches to parts of central and south Oregon including Medford.

Hazy and smoky skies will remain across the Pacific Northwest through the weekend. Poor air quality is likely to impact those who are sensitive to polluted air. While the air quality in central and eastern Oregon continue to be impacted by the wildfires burning in our region and could still see a bigger drop in air quality.
