PORLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — For 25 years, a Portland-based facility has helped people in the food and drink industry create all kinds of ground-breaking recipes and products.

The Oregon State University Food Innovation Center in the Pearl District plays a crucial role in food safety regulations. Some of these roles include helping entrepreneurs develop their products and figure out things like shelf life. They also get feedback for companies by conducting paid taste tests that you can sign up for.

“This was the first innovation center that was built in the United States, and to be here for 25 years and be successful is quite a milestone,” said center director Marcia Walker. “I’ve got a really big vision of really turning the place into the future of food.”

From sauces and spreads, to ice cream, oatmeal or tea, many of the products the food innovation center has helped with, you might already have in your own pantry or fridge.
