There’s no more homespun event in Inner Southeast on July 4th than the annual Eastmoreland Neighborhood Independence Day Parade. This year’s parade did not disappoint.

Classic vehicles were staging along S.E. Reed College Place near Duniway School; participants were flocking into the neighborhood, and observers were reserving their places in the shade of the boulevard’s Linden Allée.

Having arrived early, Jerry and Gretchen Eichentopf and their extended family and crew from Otto’s Sausage Kitchen in Woodstock had their charcoal grills hot, and their handcrafted hotdogs sizzling.

“This is our 30th year for our Independence Day Parade,” announced Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association Board Member, and event organizer, Mick Seidl, as the parade was forming.

“We figured that out by looking at photographs; our first one was in 1994,” Seidl told THE BEE. “It’s kept going, because it’s important to take time to gather and celebrate with one another, as we’re again doing this year!”

Once again, the rolling “Power Pep Band” provided lively marching music, but the parading stepping turned into a casual saunter as the throng of thousands headed north on S.E. Reed College Place to Woodstock Boulevard – and then turned around and walked back to the start.

“We invite not only neighbors, but visitors and friends from all over, to come and participate,” observed Seidl. “It’s just a fun way to celebrate the Fourth of July.”

If you’d like to have the chance to experience this year’s parade for yourself, it’s not too late – here’s a brief and exclusive BEE VIDEO to immerse yourself in! https://youtu.be/qXS7Rr4Xyyc
