    Last time in Tokyo: Schauffele closed with a 4-under 67 for a one-shot victory over silver medalist Rory Sabbatini of Slovakia, who had an Olympic record 61. C.T. Pan of Taiwan won a seven-man playoff for the bronze.

    Notes: This is the third time golf has been part of the Olympic program since it returned after a 112-year absence in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro Games. ... This is the second golf competition for the Paris Games. Charles Sands won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Olympics. ... Xander Schauffele (gold) and C.T. Pan of Taiwan (bronze) are the only medalists who return from the Tokyo Games. ... The Americans have four players for the third straight time. Each country can have a maximum of four provided they are among the top 15 in the world at the end of qualifying. ... The field features the top seven players in the world, led by Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1 who is making his Olympic debut. ... Seven players from LIV Golf are in the 60-man field, including Jon Rahm of Spain. ... Players receive world ranking points this week. The gold medalist gets an exemption into the four majors next year. ... Le Golf National hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018 and will hold the French Open in October.
