PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — If you’re hoping to secure some discounted knick-knacks at the Portland next garage sale, just know you’re in one of the best cities to do so.

Lawn Love named the Rose City as one of the top places in the U.S. to scour garage sales. The online platform, which allows users to book lawn care services, determined this by scoring the nation’s 100 biggest cities based on factors such as yard sale access and climate.

Portland landed at No. 10 overall, with a score of 48.23 points.

Here is how the city ranked in each individual category.

    • Yard sale access: No. 7
    • Interest: No. 19
    • Climate: No. 191

According to the website, the best cities for garage sales aren’t necessarily those where residents have spacious front yards. The top-ranking places overall were Los Angeles, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago and Houston.

“Busy cities like New York (No. 19) lack space for selling, but still have frequent sales — plus the chances of rummaging through luxury items are seemingly higher,” Lawn Love added. “2023 saw trends in NYC celebrity stoop, garage, and estate sales, such as from filmmaker Spike Lee, actress Chloe Sevigny, stylist Stacy London, and the late Tom Verlaine.”

According to the report, Deerfield Beach, Fla., is the worst place to scour garage sales. Several other bottom-ranking cities were found in New Jersey.
