PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The first night of a planned street takeover mission by Portland police resulted in the arrest of a speeding motorcyclist who tried to flee from officers.
Just before 11 p.m. Friday, officials say a speeding motorcyclist eluded officers attempting to stop him near Northeast Airport Way and Northeast 148th Avenue.
PHOTOS: 2-alarm apartment fire in Southeast Portland displaces 15 When the motorcyclist ran on foot into a house in the 700 block of Northeast 160th Avenue, officers surrounded the house and tried to get him to surrender.
When he refused to come out of the home, a warrant granted officers permission to enter the house. The man then climbed on the roof to escape, but was unable to get away and surrendered to police almost 4 hours after the original traffic stop.

According to PPB, the takeover mission has thus far resulted in 50 traffic stops, 11 issued citations, 4 towed vehicles and 7 arrests.
PPB and partner agencies say the will continue to run this mission through Sunday night.
