APTOS, Calif. — Artificial intelligence helped firefighters respond quickly to a wildfire in a remote part of the Bay Area. The blaze near Aptos was discovered by an AI-powered camera on Wednesday, which detects smoke and alerts crews to put it out before the fire is able to grow.

An Alameda County man has been sentenced to federal prison after being convicted of selling counterfeit electronics to the Department of Defense that were intended to be used in military equipment, including a nuclear submarine, prosecutors said Thursday.According to Northern District of California U.S. Attorney Ismael Ramsey's office, 63-year-old Steve H.S. Kim was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. MAFFS Aircraft Deployed in Support of California Fires
At the request of the National Interagency Fire Center, U.S. Northern Command deployed two C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) from California and Colorado for wildland firefighting operations from Channel Islands Air National Guard Station in Port Hueneme, California, over multiple fires in California.
