MAFFS Aircraft Deployed in Support of California Fires
At the request of the National Interagency Fire Center, U.S. Northern Command deployed two C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) from California and Colorado for wildland firefighting operations from Channel Islands Air National Guard Station in Port Hueneme, California, over multiple fires in California. Two additional aircraft will also be activated later this week from Nevada and Wyoming.

Women's Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award Recognition
LORETTO, Pa. – Women's volleyball has earned a 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award and was named to the 2024 AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll. In order to earn an AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, the team must earn a minimum 3.3 grade point average. The AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll recognizes the top 20 percent of GPAs in each division.

Aging farmworkers in Half Moon Bay want a place to ‘rest with dignity’
Javier and Felix Torres, two brothers from Guanajuato, Mexico, have lived, raised families and worked at farms in and around Half Moon Bay for more than 40 years. The brothers, now in their 60s, spoke with El Tímpano just outside Cabrillo Farms in late June. Their work day had just finished around 3 p.m. and their hands were stained green from harvesting sweet snap peas. It was a windy afternoon, but Javier Torres said that the cool weather was part of what he loved about Half Moon Bay, because it made working the fields in long sleeves easier.
