California needs a million EV charging stations — but that’s ‘unlikely’ and ‘unrealistic’
Public chargers must be built at an unprecedented pace to meet the target in less than 7 years, and then doubled to 2 million in 2035. The high cost — $120,000 or more for one fast charger— is just one obstacle.

Tuesday marked Day 2 of a hearing for LAIP’s post-conviction discovery motions in the San Mateo County Hall of Justice. Peterson […]

California Bay Area police have a real murder mystery on their hands
Authorities with the Fremont Police Department said Chrystal Obi called them asking for a welfare check at Jared Lorenzo’s apartment last Thursday where her 3-year-old daughter was seen last. Lorenzo was supposed to return the girl that evening according to a custody agreement over the girl, police said. Authorities also said Obi’s call came after she learned Lorenzo had been found dead in San Francisco and that her daughter, Ellie, was not with him.

We suggest this because you probably don’t have an “if you pay a retiree from a tiny city more than a half-million dollars a year as pension, you might want to look more closely” file — but rest assured that the California Public Retirees’ Employment System now has a file like that.
California cities and counties ignoring mandate to monitor homeless shelters
In 2021, responding to reports that the state’s homeless shelters were dirty and dangerous, the state Legislature crafted a plan: It would require local governments to inspect their shelters after complaints and file annual reports on shelter conditions. Three years on, California’s cities and counties have basically ignored the mandate. A new investigation from CalMatters […]
