EXETER - Portsmouth High School girls track and field head coach Stan Lyford said the goal wasn't necessarily to win Friday's Seacoast Championship meet at Exeter High School, but "of course you'd always like to."

Lily Jenkins and Mariam Nada both won two events as Portsmouth scored 102.4 points and beat the 15-team field for the title. Oyster River was second with a score of 92, followed by Exeter (89), Winnacunnet (61.2) and Coe-Brown (48).

"It feels really good," Lyford said. "I don't mind beating these guys."

Jenkins won both the 100 (12.56 seconds) and the 200 (25.79), while Nada won the 100-meter hurdles (15.57) and long jump (17 feet, 02 inches). Nada was also second in the 100, and third in triple jump (33-1.5).

"Our overall team performance was pretty good," Nada said. "It was a lot of competition that we're going to see at states this year, so obviously we were coming in and putting in our best."

Nada said her favorite performances were the hurdles and long jump.

"I've ran sub-16 only a few times and I was able to do that again today," Nada said. "(In the long jump), I was able to get over 17 (feet), which was also a goal of mine. I'm trying to reach 18, so hopefully we'll get there by the end of the season."
