DOVER — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on the Spaulding Turnpike Wednesday night, which closed the highway for more than an hour.

State police said the single-vehicle crash occurred at 8:45 p.m. near Exit 7 in Dover on the southbound side of the turnpike.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle, operated by 20-year-old Yorky Acosta Hernandez of Chicopee, Massachusetts, was traveling southbound when the rider lost control while negotiating a curve.

The motorcycle veered off the left side of the road, according to police, and struck a guardrail in the center median. After the initial impact, the motorcycle continued south for a short distance, during which Hernandez was thrown from the bike. Hernandez and the motorcycle came to rest in the travel portion of the highway, according to police.

Police said Hernandez was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident, police said, remains under investigation.

Members of Troop A were assisted by Dover Fire & Rescue and Eddie B Towing & Recovery. While Troopers investigated the scene, the Spaulding Turnpike was closed to traffic for approximately one hour in the area of the crash.

The scene was cleared at 9:58 p.m.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation by Trooper Kevin Ledoux of the Troop A barracks. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ledoux via email at Kevin.P.Ledoux@DOS.NH.GOV.
