    North Hampton residents among three killed in Route 101 collision

    CANDIA — New Hampshire State Police have identified the three people, including two from North Hampton, killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 101 in Candia on Saturday.

    State police responded to the accident at 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. after receiving reports of a head-on collision between two vehicles.

    When officers arrived, they determined that the driver of a 2010 Toyota Tundra was speeding eastbound when it side-swiped a 2018 Nissan Sentra, hit a guardrail, crossed the center median into the westbound lanes, and collided head-on with a 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

    The drivers of the Toyota Tundra, Michael Wescott, 59, of Greenville, and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Richard Courville, 77, of North Hampton, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

    A passenger in the Jeep, Denise Courville, 65, of North Hampton, was transported to Elliot Hospital by ambulance and died from injuries sustained in the crash.

    The driver and passenger of the Nissan Sentra, identified as Timothy McMahon, 57, and Kelly McMahon, 18, both of Peterborough, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Elliot Hospital as a precaution.

    The westbound and eastbound lanes of Route 101 were closed until westbound traffic could be rerouted, then the eastbound lanes were reopened. The westbound lanes were shut down for approximately four hours while troopers investigated the scene.

    While speed appears to be a factor in the crash, police said, all aspects remain under investigation.The New Hampshire State Police was assisted at the scene by members of the Raymond Police Department, Auburn Police Department, Candia Fire Rescue, Raymond Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
