PORTSMOUTH – Strawbery Banke Museum is announced the appointment of Jodi Black as Vice President of Preservation, Facilities, and Landscape, and James Connally as Director of Events. These strategic hires bring a wealth of expertise in historic preservation and event management, reinforcing the Museum’s commitment to excellence. This announcement closely follows Strawbery Banke’s recent designation as a Smithsonian Affiliate earlier this month, marking a major step forward in its goal to position itself alongside the nation’s top history museums.

Jodi Black joins Strawbery Banke with over two decades of experience in historic preservation. Her previous role as Supervising Preservation Manager at Historic New England saw her managing preservation projects across 38 historic properties and landscapes, securing grant funding, and leading long-term planning initiatives. Black’s expertise in maintaining historical integrity while integrating sustainable practices will be instrumental in preserving Strawbery Banke’s historic assets.

In response to the growing challenges of sea level rise, Rodney Rowland will transition from his role as Director of Facilities and Environmental Sustainability to a full-time position dedicated to addressing rising groundwater, stormwater runoff, and sea level rise. This move highlights the Museum’s ongoing commitment to preserving its historic site for future generations.

"Jodi’s extensive experience in historic preservation and her skill in combining historical integrity with sustainability makes her an invaluable addition to the leadership team," said Linnea Grim, President and CEO, Thomas W. Haas Endowed Chair. "At the same time, Rodney’s new focus on tackling sea level rise will help us navigate these critical challenges. Together, their expertise will ensure that Strawbery Banke preserves its history and strides toward our vision of world-class distinction."

James Connally, the Museum’s new Director of Events, brings extensive experience in event management, development, and community engagement. In his previous role as Development Officer for Habitat for Humanity York County, Connally successfully implemented fundraising strategies, planned major events, and cultivated corporate sponsorships. His work at Old Sturbridge Village included advancing DEIA initiatives and managing a national internship program, experiences that will greatly enhance Strawbery Banke’s event offerings.

"James’s role will be crucial in crafting events that engage the community and attract visitors from near and far," continued Grim. "While he will introduce fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, we will continue to celebrate and build upon the events that have become a staple of our programming. His expertise will ensure that every event, whether new or established, authentically reflects the spirit and history of Strawbery Banke."
