Luxury living in Ogunquit, Maine: Four new $2 million homes coming soon

OGUNQUIT, Maine — The team behind four new luxury homes to be built off Captain Thomas Road is promising the residences will be something new and needed in Ogunquit.

As he clutched a shovel for the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Aug. 22, Rock Bisson, the general contractor and president of Generation Homes in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, offered a vision for what the future owners of the new homes can expect.

“What we’re trying to create here is something that hasn’t been created,” Bisson said. “We’re within walking distance to downtown. We’re within walking distance to world-class Footbridge Beach. And where else, this close to the action, can you have your own lot and private community with some pretty high-end homes? We really want to achieve something in here.”

The homes will be built across from 26 Captain Thomas Road, along a cul-de-sac that has a nearby pond and is ringed with trees that will act as a buffer to the noise on Route 1. The development will be called The Preserve at Roby’s Pond.

Scott Rome, the founding broker and managing director of Brick & Barn , a real estate agency in Portsmouth, said the homes will start in the range of $2.4 million. For the project, Rome’s agency is affiliated with Realtor Joe Giordano of Compass Real Estate .

“We have a significant client base coming up from New York and Boston looking for primary and secondary homes in York County, and these should be a very nice option and project for them,” said Rome, his own shovel already in hand for the groundbreaking.

The dirt accessway leading from Captain Thomas Road to the cul-de-sac will become Roby’s Preserve Road, according to Rome.

Bisson said the four homes will be custom-built for their buyers, complete with an in-house designer who leads the efforts.

“She works hand-in-hand with the customers,” Bisson said. “We pick out everything from the roof color to the toilet flusher. You’re picking everything, from start to finish. Our process really makes it user-friendly for our buyers and our clients.”

Bisson said the homebuyers will have space where they can have a yard, put in a pool, and let your dog run around a bit, all within proximity to what Ogunquit offers residents and tourists alike, and all of it different from the kinds of residences on “postage-stamp lots” that are known throughout the area.

Bisson said the four homes – construction will begin soon on the first one – will be a “take on the modern farmhouse.”

“I think the traditional modern farmhouse is being done maybe a little too much, so we’re going to put our own spin on it,” he said. “We want people to come in here and feel like they’re part of a high-end community.”
