    Portsmouth to host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

    PORTSMOUTH — The city will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the public works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington residents are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8 a.m. and noon.

    The event is organized as a drive-through service. Residents remain in their vehicles and pull through the public works garage, where staff will remove disposable items from car trunks. Residents will be asked to show proof of residency for survey, purposes in compliance with EPA requirements.

    Household hazardous waste collection helps safely dispose of items that harm residents' health, the environment and drinking water supplies.

    Walk to End Alzheimer’s returns to York Beach, Portsmouth

    PORTSMOUTH —The Alzheimer’s Association is invitingresidents from York Beach, Portsmouth and nearby communities to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Maine Beaches Walk to End Alzheimer’s in York Beach on Sept. 28, and the Seacoast Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Portsmouth on Oct. 6.

    Participants can choose to start a team, join a team, or walk as an individual. The Maine Beaches Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place at York Beach Ball Field beginning at 9 a.m. The Seacoast Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place at Little Harbour Elementary School beginning at 8:30 a.m. To register and receive the latest updates on this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, visit alz.org/walk .

    'THROUGH LINE' on display at Lamont Gallery

    EXETER — Lamont Gallery at Phillips Exeter Academy is hosting THROUGH LINE, an exhibition featuring the works of Katherine Mitchell DiRico, Carly Glovinski, Lynne Harlow, Rachel Perry, Patricia Rangel, and August Ventimiglia.

    The exhibit celebrates basic mark-making as a foundation for the remarkable. Each of the six artists on view explores line through the lens of their distinct practices and mediums, ranging from marker to string, chalk, and even dirt. Together, they apply their shared interest in using lines as the basis for their work to illustrate how understated, rudimentary marks can be explored more deeply. The exhibit will be on display until Nov. 23.

    YHS Athletic Hall of Fame to host golf fundraiser

    YORK — The York High School Athletic Hall of Fame will host a 9-hole round of golf at the Cape Neddick Country Club.

    Gather your team and join them for a fun, 4-person scramble on Sept. 6, with a 4 p.m. shotgun start. The tournament fee is $75 per person, which includes 9 holes of golf, a cart, prizes, BBQ, and live musical entertainment from local artists Jerry Short and Rick Watson.

    Prizes will be awarded for gross team scores, with individual putting, straightest drive, and closest-to-the-pin contests.

    The afternoon includes a raffle with generous offers from contributing local businesses. In addition, a hole-in-one on the Par 3, Hole 3 wins a Ford Bronco Sport provided by Arundel Ford.
