Massachusetts man charged in $152K high-end car theft from Exeter dealership

EXETER A Massachusetts man is facing charges in the theft of two high-end vehicles , with a value totaling $152,000, that were stolen from Foss Motors earlier this year.

Alberto Marbert, 33, whose last known address is in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, police said, was charged Tuesday with one felony count of accomplice to theft by unauthorized taking. The charge is for his alleged role in the thefts of a white 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody and a red 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The two vehicles were stolen from the lot of the Exeter dealership at 133 Portsmouth Ave. during the overnight hours of Feb. 17 and later recovered in Boston.

Marbert, who was on probation, was arrested without incident by Massachusetts State Police on Sept. 3 after he showed up at Middlesex Superior Court in Lowell, Massachusetts, for a probation check. The court was made aware of the felony warrant in New Hampshire for Marbert, making him a fugitive from justice.

Police said, for reasons unknown, Judge Timothy Hillman ordered the pretrial release of Marbert and gave him the condition to “clear NH warrant on or before" Oct. 2.

“Our Criminal Investigative Division has worked extensively on this interstate theft case with multiple agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police and the Lowell Police Department,” said Exeter Police Chief Stephan Poulin. “While we are pleased that their combined efforts have resulted in an arrest, we are trying to understand the thought process surrounding why Marbert, who also allegedly committed the felony while on probation, was released without extradition back to New Hampshire.”

Police said two vehicles were stolen from the Foss Motors dealership at 133 Portsmouth Ave. during the overnight hours of Feb. 17.

Nearby surveillance cameras, according to police, showed two suspects exiting a newer model of a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the parking lot before heading towards Dodge SRT Hellcats.

The suspects stole a white 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody and a red 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat from the lot. Police said it appears the suspects may have attempted to steal a third vehicle, a 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, which was discovered with a shattered driver’s side rear window.

Both cars were later recovered in Boston.

During the investigation, Exeter police learned members of the Boston Police Department had responded to the Hilton Boston Back Bay hotel at approximately 3:17 a.m. on Feb. 17 after an employee reported the Dodge Challenger had driven through a gate in the parking lot.

“Hotel security reported seeing three unknown male suspects dressed in black enter the parking lot adjacent to the hotel,” police stated in a Feb. 20 press release. “A short time later, one of the men approached staff and told them that he had delivered food to the hotel and wasn’t going to pay the fee to get out of the garage. After being told that the charge couldn’t be reversed, the man, along with another individual, drove through the gate and fled.”

Police said the Dodge Challenger was later located in the nearby Hynes Auditorium parking garage. Boston police also reported the second Dodge Charger was found in a Sheraton hotel parking garage with a stolen Massachusetts commercial plate.

Poulin said the case remains under investigation and asked that anyone with information to call the Exeter Police Department at 603-772-1212, or make an anonymous tip to Seacoast Crime Stoppers at 603-431-1199 or seacoastcrimestoppers.com .
