    Hampton Beach Seafood Festival, Blueberry Festival, free picnic: Things to do in Seacoast

    Kickoff the first full weekend in September by heading over to Hampton for the 2024 Hampton Beach Seafood Festival , or try the First Congregational Church of Eliot's annual Blueberry Festival. Help raise money to benefit the Pope Memorial Humane Society with a comedy show at the Rockingham Ballroom, or rock through the ages at the Seacoast Rep. Food, laughter and music? Count me in!

    ‘Bill Childs at 90: A Retrospective’

    What: Opening Reception for “Bill Childs at 90: A Retrospective,” a show of over 40 paintings by the Exeter artist to celebrate his 90th birthday and many years of creating and teaching art. Most of the paintings will be for sale.  Music will be provided by jazz musicians Cinnamon Blomquist on flute and guitarist Gary Smith.  This is presented by the Seacoast Artist Association, and a portion of Childs' sales will go to its scholarship fund.

    Onyx at Pilots Cove Cafe

    What: Hip-hop artists Onyx perform live at Pilots Cove Cafe. Featuring special guest performances.

    Safe Haven Ballet: ‘Romeo and Juliet’

    What: Safe Haven Ballet presents the classic Romeo and Juliet at the STAR Theatre in the Kittery Community Center.

    When: Friday, Sept. 6, 7-9 p.m.

    SOME Fest

    Comedy to benefit Pope Memorial Humane Society

    What: Pope Memorial Humane Society Cocheco Valley in Dover will benefit from the comedy night featuring New England favorites Matt Barry and Chris D with Dave Decker opening.

    When: Saturday, Sept. 7, 8 p.m.

    Where: Rockingham Ballroom, 22 Ash Swamp Road, Newmarket

    Cost: $25 and attendees can bring their own food and drinks

    Blueberry Festival in Eliot

    What: First Congregational Church of Eliot's annual Blueberry Festival sponsored by Wymann’s Wild Blueberries with vendors with craft items, blueberry pancake breakfast, barbecue chicken lunch, bouncy house and lots of kids activities and pies.

    When: Saturday, Sept. 7, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

    Hampton Beach Seafood Festival

    What: The 2024 Hampton Beach Seafood Festival will include more than 50 food vendors, 60-plus arts and craft vendors, and continuous entertainment on two stages.

    When: Friday, Sept. 6, noon-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

    ‘Rock of Ages’ at the Seacoast Rep

    What: Get ready to journey back to the outrageous era of 80s glam rock, featuring hits from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar and more.

    When: Friday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m.

    ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike'

    What: Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike.

    When: Sunday, Sept. 8, at 2:30 p.m.

    Active Retirement Association Free Picnic

    What: The Active Retirement Association announces the start of its wide-ranging 2024-25 program season with a free picnic. This free event is open to the general public, so bring a friend and enjoy a light lunch of sandwiches, chips, cookies, and bottled water. (Adults only, please.) Meet current and prospective members and learn about upcoming activities and all ARA has to offer.
